ABOUT US

Kantu Tika Munaypampa Botanical Garden, located in Sacsayhuamán, Cusco, is a conservation and research initiative dedicated to protecting native Andean plant species, strengthening ancestral knowledge, and promoting environmental education through regenerative tourism. Our work integrates traditional Andean knowledge with basic scientific research, plant propagation, ecological restoration, and community participation.

Our mission is to conserve and restore Andean biodiversity while creating meaningful learning experiences for visitors and local communities. Our vision is to become a leading center for native plant conservation, research, environmental education, and regenerative tourism in the Andes, contributing to the long-term protection of Cusco’s biocultural heritage.

IMPACT

Our impact focuses on conservation, environmental education, research, and the regeneration of high-Andean ecosystems. To date, approximately 576 people have participated in training sessions and educational activities on medicinal plants, Andean pharmacopoeia, phytotherapy, native fungi, Master Plants, ecological restoration, and ecosystem conservation. We also welcome schools, early childhood groups, university students, and researchers, helping strengthen appreciation of Andean biodiversity and natural heritage.

The garden conserves plant species for scientific research and university theses, while also carrying out basic research and monitoring of plants, birds, and insects. We work with local communities on ecological restoration initiatives by providing seeds and native plant material conserved within the garden.

Visitors can participate in activities ranging from native plant reforestation to plant biosonification, medicinal plant interpretation, and direct engagement with Andean knowledge, prioritizing ecosystem conservation and a deeper relationship between people and the natural environment.
