OUR EXPERIENCES

The Tampa Baseball Museum is owned and operated by the Ybor City Museum Society, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the unique cultural heritage of Ybor City, while honoring Tampa's historic role in the game of baseball. Housed in the childhood home of Al Lopez, Tampa's first MLB player, Hall of Fame inductee, and MLB manager, the 1905 casita boasts over 140 years of Tampa's baseball history and provides an array of items for purchase in the museum store, including author-signed books about Tampa baseball.

ABOUT US

Our mission is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the unique cultural heritage of Ybor City, while honoring Tampa's historic role in the game of baseball. In addition to running a museum with over 140 years of Tampa's baseball history, we run a complimentary mobile museum in which we take a small setup of artifacts, photos, and banners to organizations and share Tampa's baseball history and the founding of Ybor City. Our mobile museum is accessible to all and assists our vision to provide a comprehensive overview of our cultural history, including the founding of Ybor City, the immigrant communities who built a city, and the passion for the game of baseball that brought a community together.

IMPACT

The Tampa Baseball Museum provides a complimentary mobile museum to educate the community about the rich cultural heritage of Ybor City and Tampa. We travel to schools, senior centers, community events, and professional environments to educate about the community in which they live, work and play, providing a bridge to the past to better understand the present. We also have a complimentary summer series for children to encourage literacy by reading one of our children's books written on local players and joined by local mascots. Our fundraising events help provide funding to continue complimentary programs and encourage connection to the community.

What accommodations do you make for people living with disabilities?

We are ADA compliant with a ramp entrance and accessibility throughout the building. However, the parking is within the City of Tampa and only three spaces are close. If a person is not physically fit to travel from the nearest parking lot (2 blocks), they will need someone to bring them and drop them off at the door.
