She Shapes History

She Shapes History

Walk through women’s history in Australia, uncover overlooked stories, and help shift public memory through engaging tours and local stories too.

OUR EXPERIENCES

She Shapes History is your guide to women's history, sharing the stories we should all know but were just never told. Travellers can join our flagship walking tours in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong, book a private or corporate tour, or catch a limited-edition tour, talk or event created with partners like the National Library of Australia. Or take us home with our book, merch and free self-guided maps, because just by going for a walk, you're shaping history.

ABOUT US

Ever feel like you're missing half the story? You kinda are. She Shapes History is a feminist social enterprise closing the respect gap by making women's history accessible, and genuinely fun, for everyone. Because who we choose to respect from the past shapes who we respect in the present.

IMPACT

Our theory of change gets women's stories out of the archive and into everyday life. We go looking in archives and local records. We build the front door, turning that material into tours, books and content anyone can engage with. People meet women's history where they already are. Respect grows: public memory shifts, and so does how women are treated today.

Education and awareness: Since founding in 2021, we've reached over 15,000 people, including 8,330 in the last financial year. Many arrive knowing little about Australian women's history and leave describing, unprompted, a shift in how they see it.

Social, cultural and community: We help cultural institutions reach people who wouldn't otherwise walk through their doors, and every woman we research is documented so her story can be used again.

Governance: We're a feminist social enterprise with a decentralised model: every city is led locally, backed by one central team.
